How to Choose a Child Development Centre in Hyderabad
Hyderabad has dozens of child development centres, from hospital departments to single-room therapy clinics. Quality varies wildly, prices are opaque, and you are choosing while worried about your child, the exact conditions under which bad decisions happen. This guide is the checklist we wish every parent had, including the parts that do not favour us.
Five things that actually predict quality
1. Assessment before therapy, always
A good centre assesses first, shares written findings, and then proposes therapy. A centre that quotes a therapy package in the first phone call, before anyone has met your child, is running a sales process, not a clinical one.
2. A team that shares one plan
Many "multidisciplinary" centres are just separate therapists renting rooms in the same building. Ask one question: how often do my child's therapists meet to discuss the plan together? If the answer is vague, the coordination does not exist.
3. Qualified, named, consistent staff
Ask for therapist qualifications and RCI registration where applicable. Ask who will actually handle your child's sessions, and ask about therapist turnover.
4. Parents inside the room, not outside it
Centres confident in their work let you observe or participate, and train you to continue the work at home.
5. Written goals and scheduled reviews
"He is improving" is not a metric. Insist on written goals at the start and reviews on a calendar.
Red flags, stated plainly
Guaranteed outcomes or fixed timelines promised before assessment
Pressure to prepay long packages on day one
No written reports, or reports that are templates with the name changed
Every child receiving the same therapy mix regardless of assessment
Refusal to share staff qualifications
Claims of secret or exclusive methods unavailable anywhere else
When a hospital CDC is the better choice
If your child needs medical diagnosis, suspected epilepsy, genetic conditions, significant neurological concerns, start at a hospital with developmental paediatrics or paediatric neurology. Dedicated therapy centres are the right choice for ongoing, intensive, coordinated therapy after or alongside medical care. Many families sensibly use both.
Questions to ask on your first call
What does the assessment include and how long does it take?
Who exactly will work with my child, and what are their qualifications?
How are goals set, and when is progress reviewed with me?
Can I observe sessions?
What happens if my child is not progressing?
A good centre answers these comfortably. A poor one gets defensive. Either way, you learn what you needed to know.
